Too Tired to Think

Computer issues are solved temporarily (a.k.a. reduce overheating by turning it on its side) but I think it's best that I take my laptop in for repairs or something after the term. I don't think computers are supposed to shut down due to being too hot.

Nah, I just worry too much.

But lately I haven't been sleeping. No, not just to sleep apnea but thanks to school work. Due to technical issues with my research project I've had to redo various things over and over and over. I've probably wasted over 20 hours with just one portion of it. It doesn't help that I suck at Photoshop.

Oh, and there are still other parts of the experiment that I need to get done that have only been further delayed by these problems. The end of the term is coming and I've barely made any progress at all. It's infuriating and I'm wasting my nights redoing things.

KILL ME NOW.

And then we have the endless reading, writing, editing and presenting of papers. I've been staying up all night doing these things as well. I'd like to think that my writing ability improves as I become more sleep-deprived but that's probably the crazy part of my brain doing the talking.

The sad thing is that my body is reaching it's limits. I can't recall the last time I was fully rested and I'm forcing myself to stay up even later. I've been trying to get by with powernaps but even with those I'm still passing out, essays half-written and papers barely skimmed.

I use way too many of these images.

A plus side to staying up all-night? I actually wake up in time for breakfast. Ok, technically I didn't "wake up" but now I'm able to make myself something respectable for a meal. You know, instead of eating nothing like I usually do.

I'm not sure if anyone else notices but toast in diners and restaurants always taste different. It tastes better than using the toaster at home. And for years I couldn't figure out why but apparently what they do is they fry it in a pan instead of using a toaster. And when I tried this for myself at home it tasted just like I ordered it at some place.

Now I refuse to eat toast at home in any other way. Butter in the pan, fry for a minute on both sides, butter the toast, and eat. I don't care that it's way more effort to do it this way, the buttery goodness is worth it.

Damian, 10 years from now.

Tonight, I've had enough. I'm going to sleep after this post. And I'm going to try and enjoy it before the next wave of school related crap comes to try and kill me.

Also, this post wasn't written in advance. So I'm hoping that everything I just typed was coherent and grammatically correct.

  1. Sorry to hear about your lack of sleep man. I see no errors in the post and I'm glad you've got things sorted out with your computer at least. Best of luck with this mountain of work buddy, I'm sure you'll be fine.

  2. That was surprisingly coherent and correct. I'm tempted to agree that you do write better when tired. You write good still at least. You need rest dude, lots and lots of rest.

  4. I can only say that i feel your pain from when this happened to me for a little while in my life, I hope you can get through and safely out the other end!

  5. your toast thing made me laugh because that's the only way we could have toast here for years. (Toasters only recently became available). We used to butter the bread and then fry each side. Definitely good. You can also spread nice quantities of butter on both sides - then sprinkle cinnamon/sugar on top, cover with a lid and put the fire on low... makes excellent cinnamon toast!

So what happened with your medical stuff?

  6. That's what school does to someone...it sucks all the sleep out of them and turns it into words in a paper. LOL Good luck and meanwhile, enjoy your breakfast :)

  8. Sounds like it is piling up indeed but I'm sure you'll push through. You just need a night or two of passing out and actually sleeping. Never knew that about toast either.

  9. sleepyti.me is a way to go. Even if you have little time to sleep, it can calculate the best time to wake up and be less tired.

  10. The more delicious way of making toast takes more effort, thus burning more calories. It evens each other out man, you're a genius!

And good luck with the research project. Try thinking ahead as far as possible before starting on a new part, might save your ass.

  11. I always wondered how it is possible that the toast is so much better in restaurants. Thank you for this enlightenment! I'll gonna try it now.

  12. THAT'S how they make the toast so good?

That's it, I'm throwing away my toaster. I'm never using one again.

(Also, I hope things get better and you can rest up some time soon. Don't kill yourself)

  13. The overheating can be a dust build up problem. Or the fan crapping out. Most newer PCs are self-aware, and if they detect a heating issue, they'll shut down to reduce the risk of a fire hazard. If you know how to pop it open, hit it with some compressed air from one of those cans

Pushing your self like this will make you better at doing that kind of thing!

  18. Well, I can definitely vouch that the post was coherent! I think you are right for going to sleep now and trying to get a good rest in.

By the way, if you like your toast that way, try making a grilled cheese sandwich the same way. Just get two slices of bread, some cheese between them and fry them up like you would toast.

  19. Few things are as magnificent as fried bread. next time you have bacon, fry the bread in the bacon fat. YUM.

Hope you can get some decent rest while you're working on all the school stuff. And good luck with the overheating laptop! Mine's been getting bad with that. It actually burns if there's nothing between the laptop and my skin....

  22. Frying pan toast is the best. The best ever.

And you suck at photoshop, what do you need done? You've got blogger buddies who are good at photo manipulation and might be able to help a smidgen if you need. Wink.

  34. Sir, I've lived the sleepless life before, and I agree that it sucks. What's worse is there really isn't a thing you can do about it. Hope you can get a bit more sleep, you need it.

  41. Until recently, I could empathize with you on the schoolwork. You could unscrew the casing on your computer and see if the inside needs cleaning. :-) My laptop was overheating, so I pulled the facing off and used compressed air to blow the dust off the fan. It now runs perfectly.
